What is Mixed Super 12?

Mixed Super 12 is a beach tennis tournament format for 24 players competing in mixed doubles. Each side has one man and one woman. Partners rotate: each man partners with each of the 12 women once, and each woman partners with each of the 12 men once.

A match result contributes to both partners’ records, but standings are individual: one men’s list and one women’s list. The number in the name indicates each division’s size, not a count of fixed pairs or the total number of players.

Rounds, matches and byes

MeasureCountMeaning

Rounds15Blocks of scheduled matches; each player appears at most once in each block.
Matches per player12Matches one person plays, excluding extra tiebreak matches.
Byes per player3Rounds in which the player does not appear in any match.
Total matches72Count each match once, although four players take part.

There are 12 rounds of five matches and three rounds of four: 12 × 5 + 3 × 4 = 72 matches. Each player plays 12 times and has three byes across 15 rounds. This is not a 12-round schedule.

The three byes are spread through the schedule, with no consecutive byes. Waiting for another match to free a court is a wait within the round: it does not create another scheduled bye. The draw may change round order and the names assigned to positions.

How play works

The app assigns names to the schedule so each man partners with every woman once. In each round, call matches according to court availability and respect scheduled byes. After valid scores, check both standings tables.

With 5 courts, each round fits into one simultaneous court call. With one court, the 72 matches need 72 calls. The number of rounds remains 15.

With two courts, for example, there are 12 × 3 + 3 × 2 = 42 court calls spread across the 15 rounds. That does not mean 42 rounds, nor does it change each player’s 12 matches and three byes.

To estimate duration, multiply court calls by the expected match time, then allow for transitions, warm-up and breaks. This is a planning estimate, not an app guarantee.

One draw, two rounds to follow

These two rounds show one possible draw for “Copa Horizonte Mista”, a tournament using fictional data. Follow partnerships and byes across both rounds. The draw may change player assignments and round order; the structure keeps 12 matches and three byes per player, with individual standings in each division.

In this example, Lucas Costa first partners with Lara Costa, then Clara Melo. The partnership changes, but results stay in the individual record.

Partnering with everyone once does not mean facing every opponent exactly once. Partnerships do not repeat; opponents can appear again.

Organizer settings

  • Courts: 1 to 5, with names to make court calls easier. Five are recommended. With fewer, the app splits each round into successive calls, preserving matchups and all 15 rounds.
  • Scoring: the tournament starts with a reference of 6 games. This version’s creation form does not offer a score-target selector. Agree match length and finishing rules before play; this reference is not a universal rule of the sport.
  • Standings: choose the order of criteria offered in the form. The default is wins, game difference and games for. Review the tournament’s displayed policy before starting.
  • Ranking basis: accumulated totals or per-match averages. Totals are the default; averages compare performance when players have completed different numbers of matches.
  • Tied scores: the organizer can allow them in qualifying rounds. This option starts off. Elimination matches and tiebreak matches still require a winner.
  • Draw: review and confirm the schedule before playing. Confirmation or the first score locks redrawing. A replacement inherits the player’s position, preserving the schedule and history.

In this format, final results come from individual standings once ties are resolved. The extra-final option is available for fixed pairs. Any additional tiebreak matches are separate from the base-schedule counts shown here.

How standings are calculated

The pair plays together, but each result contributes to two individual records, in separate men’s and women’s standings.

The Super Beach default

Standings use accumulated totals and compare these criteria in order:

  1. Wins — more match wins rank first.
  2. Game difference — if tied, compare games for minus games against.
  3. Games for — if the difference is also tied, compare games scored.
A match ends 6–3. What goes into each player’s record?

Illustrative score: both partners receive these figures in their individual records.

Per playerWGFGAGD
Each winner163+3
Each loser036−3

W: wins · GF: games for · GA: games against · GD: game difference.

Both winners receive the same figures; each losing player also records a loss. Under this default, one win counts as one win, without conversion to three league points.

Current standings follow valid completed scores. Before finishing the tournament, check for pending matches and unresolved ties.

Adapt it to your tournament

Totals and averages

Keep totals or choose per-match averages, and change the order of the criteria offered in the app. Averages compare wins per match, game difference per match and games for per match in your selected order.

Byes can leave players with different numbers of completed matches during the tournament. Totals and averages can therefore produce different current standings. Once the entire base schedule is complete, each player will have played the same number of matches.

Tied scores

This option starts off. If you allow tied scores in qualifying rounds, a completed draw adds one match and each side’s games without awarding a win. Elimination matches and tiebreak matches still require a winner.

Head-to-head

In Mixed Supers, head-to-head is optional and follows your selected tiebreak order. For two tied players in the same division, the app adds the game difference from every base-schedule match in which they were opponents. Matches as partners and extra matches are excluded.

All those encounters must be complete. If the difference is zero, the app moves to the next criterion.

Restored tournaments

A restored tournament may retain its existing ranking policy. Check the policy shown in that tournament before comparing results.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Mixed Super 12 have 15 rounds if each player plays 12 times?

Because every player has three byes. 12 appearances + 3 byes = 15 rounds. The tournament total is 72 matches.

Can I keep the same partner?

Not within this rotating structure. Choose Super 8 Doubles or Super 12 Doubles to keep partners together throughout the tournament.

Must matches be played to six?

Six games is the app’s initial reference, not a universal rule. This version’s form does not offer another target. Agree match rules with players before play starts.

Do matches require internet?

Local organization and score entry can work offline. Publishing and updating a Live Link requires a connection. You can keep entering scores locally when you are offline.

Does one event’s regulation apply to everyone?

No. Match time, prizes and venue-specific rules do not automatically define this format. This guide explains how Super Beach organizes the format; agree your event rules before the first match.
