What is Super 8 Individual?
Super 8 Individual is a beach tennis tournament in which eight players compete in doubles and are ranked individually. Partnerships change each round. By the end of the base schedule, each person has partnered with every other player once.
“Individual” describes the standings, not singles matches. Unlike Super 8 Doubles, you enter eight people rather than eight ready-made pairs. Choose this format for a group of eight who want to play with different partners.
Rounds, matches and byes
| Measure | Count | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Players | 8 | Eight individually entered players. |
| Rounds | 7 | Blocks of scheduled matches; each player appears at most once in each block. |
| Matches per player | 7 | Matches one person plays, excluding extra tiebreak matches. |
| Byes per player | 0 | Everyone plays in all seven rounds. |
| Total matches | 14 | Count each match once, although four players take part. |
There are two matches in each of seven rounds: 7 × 2 = 14 matches. Four players take part in each match. Checking participation: 8 players × 7 matches ÷ 4 = 14 matches.
With two courts, both matches in a round can run together. With one court, they run in sequence. Waiting for your match is not a bye: all eight players have one match in every round.
How play works
The app organizes all eight players into two doubles matches per round, following the Super 8 structure. Play, enter both results and move to the next round; a new set of partnerships keeps the competition individual.
With 2 courts, each round fits into one simultaneous court call. With one court, the 14 matches need 14 calls. The number of rounds remains 7.
To estimate duration, multiply court calls by the expected match time, then allow for transitions, warm-up and breaks. This is a planning estimate, not an app guarantee.
One possible Super 8 draw
This table shows one possible draw for eight players, labelled A to H. Super Beach uses a seven-round structure: each person partners with every other player once and faces each of them twice. The draw assigns players within that structure; advanced leveling, when selected, also influences the assignment. Names and resulting partnerships may change while these rules stay the same.
Follow participant A, highlighted in the table, to see how their partners change.
| Round | Match 1 | Match 2 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | A + B × E + F | C + H × D + G |
| 2 | A + H × E + G | B + C × D + F |
| 3 | A + F × C + G | B + E × D + H |
| 4 | A + D × F + H | B + G × C + E |
| 5 | A + E × C + D | B + F × G + H |
| 6 | A + C × B + H | D + E × F + G |
| 7 | A + G × B + D | C + F × E + H |
In this example, A starts with B, then partners with H, F, D, E, C and G. This is the path shown here, rather than a required sequence of names for your tournament. Each player still has seven matches and seven different partners, with partnerships prepared by the app.
Organizer settings
- Courts: 1 to 2, with names to make court calls easier.
- Scoring: the tournament starts with a reference of 6 games. This version’s creation form does not offer a score-target selector. Agree match length and finishing rules before play; this reference is not a universal rule of the sport.
- Standings: choose the order of criteria offered in the form. The default is wins, game difference and games for. Review the tournament’s displayed policy before starting.
- Ranking basis: accumulated totals or per-match averages. Totals are the default; averages compare performance when players have completed different numbers of matches.
- Tied scores: the organizer can allow them in qualifying rounds. This option starts off. Elimination matches and tiebreak matches still require a winner.
- Draw and leveling: the app assigns names to schedule positions. Advanced leveling is a PRO feature and uses the supplied order to seek more balanced matchups; it cannot guarantee equally skilled matches.
In this format, final results come from individual standings once ties are resolved. The extra-final option is available for fixed pairs. Any additional tiebreak matches are separate from the base-schedule counts shown here.
How standings are calculated
On court, the pair wins together. In the standings, the result contributes to each player’s individual record.
The Super Beach default
Standings use accumulated totals and compare these criteria in order:
- Wins — more match wins rank first.
- Game difference — if tied, compare games for minus games against.
- Games for — if the difference is also tied, compare games scored.
Illustrative score: both partners receive these figures in their individual records.
| Per player | W | GF | GA | GD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Each winner | 1 | 6 | 3 | +3 |
| Each loser | 0 | 3 | 6 | −3 |
W: wins · GF: games for · GA: games against · GD: game difference.
Both winners receive the same figures; each losing player also records a loss. Under this default, one win counts as one win, without conversion to three league points.
Current standings follow valid completed scores. Before finishing the tournament, check for pending matches and unresolved ties.
Frequently asked questions
Is it seven matches or fourteen?
Each player plays seven; the whole tournament has fourteen. Adding seven appearances for each of eight people counts every match four times.
Can I keep the same partner?
Not within this rotating structure. Choose Super 8 Doubles or Super 12 Doubles to keep partners together throughout the tournament.
Must matches be played to six?
Six games is the app’s initial reference, not a universal rule. This version’s form does not offer another target. Agree match rules with players before play starts.
Do matches require internet?
Local organization and score entry can work offline. Publishing and updating a Live Link requires a connection. You can keep entering scores locally when you are offline.
Does one event’s regulation apply to everyone?
No. Match time, prizes and venue-specific rules do not automatically define this format. This guide explains how Super Beach organizes the format; agree your event rules before the first match.
